    — The Fire Engineer needs to assist and train under the Fire Protection Engineering Team to serve as an expert technical authority on fire prevention, — The Fire Engineer will provide expert advice and perform highly advanced complex reviews of plans and specifications for fire protection planning, fire suppression, fire detection. life safety analysis and hazard analysis to ensure that all new construction, — Will serve as technical consultant in fire protection and prevention engineering; will provide advice and guidance to architects, engineers and other construction personnel to ensure the most up-to-date fire prevention concepts and practice are incorporated into the design, construction and renovation of facilities. — Experience in the planning, design and fire safety project management of different occupancy types shall be a key factor in personnel selection. Furthermore, experience in dealing with the Authority Having Jurisdiction on planning approval shall also be considered KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: — Develop training materials, and conduct training sessions on fire protection with internal staff. — Prepare and write reports detailing specific fire prevention and protection issues such as fire system performed and proposed maintenance review schedules. — Advise architects, builders, and other construction personnel on fire prevention equipment and techniques, and on fire code and standard interpretation and compliance. — Conduct research on fire retardants and the fire safety of materials and devices. — Consult with authorities to discuss safety regulations and to recommend changes as necessary for projects. — Design fire detection equipment, alarm systems, and fire extinguishing devices and systems. — Direct the purchase, modification, installation, maintenance, and operation of fire protection systems. — Inspect buildings or building designs to determine fire protection system requirements and potential problems in areas such as fire water supplies, exit locations, and construction materials in relation to statutory compliance. — Good knowledge on Local and International Fire Safety Codes (i.e. SANS, BS, EN, NFPA and IFC) — Attend workshops, seminars, or conferences to present or obtain information regarding fire prevention and protection. — Develop fire safety plans for evacuation, way finding, fire equipment positioning, fire wall ratings and escape widths.
